Amazon is looking for a highly analytical Business Intelligence Engineer to join the AWS Data Center Engineering Team. The Data Center Engineering team owns the availability of AWS data centers, and has a direct impact on the customer experience. We obsess over customers by developing the most advanced engineering solutions that result in world class uptime, while continuously reducing costs for our customers. As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will partner with Data Engineers and partner teams to harness the vast amount of operational data from the AWS fleet, and will use these data to generate insights that will guide engineering excellence and improvements on behalf AWS customers. Data analysis is at the core Amazon’s culture, and your work will have a direct impact on decision making and strategy for our organization.

The ideal candidates will have excellent analytical abilities, outstanding business acumen and judgment, intense curiosity, strong technical skills, and superior written and verbal communication skills. They will have a strong bias toward data driven decision making. They will be a self-starter; comfortable with ambiguity; able to think big and be creative, while exercising strong judgment and good instincts to be right a lot. The ideal candidate is motivated by delivering high-quality and innovative solutions within timeframes that most think are impossible. RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with engineering stakeholders, partner technical teams, and business stakeholders, to gather business and functional requirements, and translate these requirements into robust, scalable, and operable solutions that work well within the overall AWS data architecture, and lead to improved engineering decisions.

  • Develop a deep understanding and awareness of operational data from the AWS fleet, and look around corners to recommend analytical solutions for improving engineering decision making and results.

  • In partnership with team Data Engineers, design, develop and maintain user-friendly systems, reports, dashboards, etc., which are automated and continuously scale to meet the pace of AWS growth.

  • Apply deep analytic and business intelligence skills to extract meaningful insights and learning from large and complicated data sets.

  • Build various data visualizations to tell the story of operational trends, patterns, and outliers through rich visualizations.

  • Insist on the highest standards by recognizing and adopting best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

  • Experience developing and presenting recommendations of new metrics allowing better understanding of the performance of the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

  • Experience with forecasting and statistical analysis

  • Experience working as a BIE in a technology company
