This role is crucial for delivering business-critical upgrade projects worldwide. As part of the team, the selected candidate will have the following responsibilities:

Job Summary:

  1. Independently execute Turbine Module/Hot Gas Path (HGP)-related scope for both legacy GE and legacy Alstom gas turbines.

  2. Take complete ownership of mechanical designs, ensuring adherence to schedules and maintaining high-quality engineering deliverables.

  3. Resolve critical GT HGP-related design issues from both an engineering and hardware/manufacturing standpoint.

  4. Contribute to variable-cost productivity initiatives and collaborate with sourcing, repair, and field teams to develop custom hardware modifications.

  5. Apply creativity and imagination to develop turbine HGP systems, considering cost, reliability, operability, and emissions.

Roles and Responsibilities

Lead Engineer - Turbine Mechanical Component responsibilities:

  1. Design and Analysis Leadership :

  2. Lead and execute GT Turbine Module (Structures & HPG components) design/analysis for assigned Configuration Modification and Upgrade (CM&U) projects.

  3. Apply sound engineering principles and adhere to business standards, practices, procedures, and project-specific requirements.

  4. HD Service Upgrades :

  5. Execute HD service upgrades projects during both the Initial Technical Offering (ITO) and Order to Remittance (OTR) phases.

  6. Develop optimized configurations in terms of geometry, cost, performance, and materials, following the latest design practice (DP) guidelines.

  7. Performance Evaluation :

  8. Perform detailed reviews to evaluate current and proposed turbine module hardware design changes.

  9. Aim for required GT performance improvements to meet project-specific performance guarantees and customer Critical-to-Quality (CTQ) requirements.

  10. PLM Deliverables and Dispositions :

  11. Provide Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) deliverables and dispositions, including casings compatibility checks, as part of heavy-duty service upgrade projects.

  12. Project Support and Technical Assistance :

  13. Support project ASAP workflows and Equipment Data Record Management (EDRM) calls.

  14. Provide technical support for complex field issues routed to engineering via Event Reports (ER), Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Non-Conformance Reports (NCR), or Safety cases.

  15. TAG Collaboration and Hardware Definition :

  16. Co-own Technical Advisory Groups (TAGs) related to Turbine Module upgrades.

  17. Define Aftermarket Original (AO) Hardware for Airfoils, PIP (Particulate Ingestion Protection), Casings, and Bearings.

  18. Cross-Functional Collaboration :

  19. Proactively collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Heat Transfer (HT), Aero, Manufacturing (MFG), Repair, Product Development Engineering (PDE), Services, and System teams.

  20. Optimize system-level performance.

  21. Review Rigor and Attention to Detail :

  22. Work closely with Title Leaders (TL), controlled title holders, and Chief Engineers (CE) offices.

  23. Ensure thorough reviews and attention to detail.

  24. Project Management :

  25. Work concurrently on multiple projects, monitor progress, ensure quality, and meet schedule requirements.

  26. Effective Communication :

  27. Communicate effectively and provide recommendations to both internal and external customers.

  28. Use proper engineering analysis, preparation, and presentation of technical data.

  29. Business Priorities :

  30. Align with overall business priorities: Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Cost (SQDC).

  31. Rapid Learning and Decision-Making :

  32. Quickly learn new technical domains and apply learnings to active projects, making informed decisions based on new knowledge.

Required Qualifications

  • Education :

  • B. Eng/B. Tech degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related Engineering discipline from an accredited college or university.

  • Experience :

  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in Turbo Machinery components design or a related engineering discipline.

  • Design Philosophy Understanding :

  • Good understanding of the design evolution of the Turbine Module.

  • Ability to check the compatibility of different Hot Gas Path (HGP) configurations as it applies to various upgrade projects.

​Desired characteristics for a candidate:

  1. Educational Qualification :

  2. A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Aerospace Engineering , or a closely related engineering discipline is highly desirable.

  3. Domain Experience in Gas Turbines :

  4. The ideal candidate should have experience in the gas turbine domain .

  5. Specifically, expertise in HGP (Hot Gas Path) capital parts such as Nozzles , Shrouds , and Buckets is valuable.

  6. This includes understanding different hardware configurations applicable to turbine units.

  7. Technical Competencies :

  8. Life Cycle Management :

  9. Familiarity with managing the entire life cycle of gas turbine components.

  10. Fatigue Evaluations :

  11. Ability to assess and evaluate fatigue behavior in turbine parts.

  12. High Temperature Calculations :

  13. Proficiency in performing calculations related to high-temperature environments.

  14. HGP Tools and High-End Finite Element Analysis :

  15. Experience with specialized tools used for HGP components.

  16. Proficiency in conducting finite element analysis at an advanced level.
