Job Description:

DIRECTOR CSPD

  • Directs the daily operations of all NEBH Central Sterile Processing services. Directs activity of CSPD Technicians engaged in furnishing sterile and non-sterile supplies, equipment, and services for the care and treatment of patients.

  • Maintains and displays knowledge of current professional issues and developments, through membership in professional associations, attendance at seminars and workshops, literature, etc., and communicates new developments, as well as new products and systems to appropriate hospital leadership. Demonstrates and writes policy and procedures to enable the staff to correctly carry out their duties. Assists the CSPD manager with staff meetings and Inservice programs on a regular and timely basis with Supervisors and Coordinators.

  • Works with the CSPD Manager to ensure the operating room is supplied with a daily case cart system that contains all the instrumentation and sterile supplies that are required to complete the operating room surgical schedule as need per facility.

  • Works with Materials Management to maintains an adequate and appropriate inventory of equipment and supplies. Conducts an accurate annual inventory of departmental supplies and equipment to ensure that financial objectives of department and/or hospital are not compromised. Works with the Operating Room clinical nurses in regard to new instrumentation and repairing or purchasing instruments as required. Works with OR Clinical Educator in organizing Inservice programs for the surgical staff, when new instruments and/or supplies are introduced into the system.

  • Operates department within budgetary guidelines, providing appropriate written justification for budget variances as needed. Analyzes the productivity of the department for efficient and effective operations.

  • Develops and implements an effective quality assurance program to monitor and control departmental services. Ensures that aseptic techniques are employed in preparing and handling equipment.

  • Knowledge of CSPD equipment, mainly washers and sterilizers, and associated service contracts and preventative maintenance schedules.

  • Participates on hospital committees as required. Provides effective leadership and support to those committees. Performs necessary department audits for proper utilization of equipment, supplies, staff, and/or services, etc., reporting results in a timely manner to the applicable hospital committee.

Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred.

5-8 years of work and supervisory experience.

Certification in Central Sterile Processing required.

LEAN training preferred.
