Summary - Main Purpose of the Position
Reporting to the Global Procurement Director- Plant Indirect and Real Estate, the Global Category Senior Manager works in partnership with Regional Procurement Managers in the development and execution of innovative global and regional sourcing strategies, governance, and tailored supply bases for the Utilities category.
The GCM also manages an outside Consulting Firm who provides energy management and procurement services to the BD including:
Development, solicitation, analysis of RFP’s
Contract review and execution
Forward hedging recommendations, approval, and execution
Participate in Market Updates and Risk Management reviews
Annual budget development and communication to stakeholders
The GCM is a core team member of the Sustainability 2030 team and supports the efforts of an energy management program with contracting support for renewable energy opportunities including green tariffs, wind energy, behind the meter Power Purchase Agreements for solar arrays, Renewable Energy Certificate purchases, combined heat & power energy service agreements, and Fuel Cells.
Categories and associated suppliers are typically a mix of global, regional, and local and represent significant opportunity and risk to multiple businesses and functions. The Global Category Senior Manager is responsible for driving significant performance improvements in Quality, Service, Total Cost, Risk Management, Innovation, and Responsible Sourcing.
Primary Responsibilities and Duties
% of Time (estimated)
25% - engagement and alignment on strategy execution with regional category team members including market sensing, risk management and budgeting.
25% - Corporate and stakeholder intake, and translation into aligned category strategies including effective execution across geographies, business segments, and key partners.
45% - Value-based Supplier Relationship Management in partnership with cross functional stakeholders and the outside consulting firm to develop category (and where appropriate, geographical) supplier stratification, development, and partnering approaches driving a cost savings pipeline for current and future years, performance management, program management and resource allocation. Steady rhythm of continuous improvement initiatives and managing cross-functional implementation.
5% - Engaging with the Procurement CoE and peer Category Senior Managers advancing development and adoption of thoughtful standards, measures, benchmarks, and automation continually advancing Procurement Operational Excellence.
Scope of Responsibility:
For the assigned category, the Global Category Senior Manager ensures that:
The team of regional Procurement Managers are engaged and embrace a growth mindset towards efficiency, performance, and professional development
Global category teams are functional and effective, and resulting strategies are communicated, aligned, and implemented
Category strategies are aligned with stakeholder objectives and models are developed to baseline and track Global Procurement and supplier-enabled value delivery to such objectives
Category strategies are inclusive of regional business requirements, reflective of external regional market conditions and supply practices and result in three-to-five-year roadmaps of savings and value streams, and where appropriate, sustainability and innovation opportunities
Appropriate KPIs are established and tracked to ensure successful execution of the strategies
Internal and external sensing occurs, and strategies are refreshed as needed
Supplier selection is consistent with sourcing strategies and supplier selection is approved by the appropriate collaborators and communicated appropriately to the end user community
Strategic customer engagements are planned and managed to ensure alignment of activities across the internal and external supply chains
Existing process gaps are identified, and solutions are provided to the management
Effective processes are developed and maintained to drive standardized purchasing activities across different business segments/units
Degree of Accountability:
For the assigned category, the Global Category Senior Manager is accountable for:
Promoting the establishment of long-term cooperative relationships (through Supplier Relationship Management) with key suppliers and ensuring that all suppliers are treated in a professional, ethical, accountable, and fair manner
Negotiation and RFX planning, negotiation, and contracting results with suppliers
Efficient supply base compliance for assigned scope including compliance to corporate procedures and all legislation driven and socially responsible reporting requirements
Development and maintenance of risk mitigation plans inclusive of proactive risk identification and risk prevention, forward hedging, mitigation, retirement, and compliance for assigned group of categories with businesses or functions
Ensuring that all categories / sourcing strategies consider and address relevant aspects of the source-to-pay process aligned to corporate cash management objectives
Ensuring that all categories / sourcing strategies align with the Sustainability 2030 goals.
Further BD total quality approach through Supplier Development Managers who conduct commercial and quality systems assessments of key BD suppliers, identify and quantify opportunities and drive joint improvement activities
Change management in introducing guided buying principles and practices
Financial/Cost Objectives:
Team results and delivery against functional goals including meeting or exceeding an annual contribution of 5-7% savings return on spend across near, mid and long-term driven by supplier savings and value delivery
Improve BD’s financial position through cost savings, non-price value opportunities and price movement / inflation management and appropriate standard cost
Engage and influence Finance partners to drive appropriate quantification and visibility of financial impacts in the respective budgets through communication and consensus on strategies, and the annual budgeting process
Drive spend penetration to achieve savings target through discounts and rebates (?) from key suppliers

KSA Requirements (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
Working and influencing within a highly matrixed organization

Strategic agility, intuition for business and managing complexity
Adept at encouraging, developing, leading in inclusive and diverse environments
Procurement, Strategic Sourcing, Supplier Management in either or both Manufacturing and Services environments
Understanding of global supply markets and using them for sourcing strategies
Cost management practices including budgeting
Strategic sourcing or category management with a history of successful breakthrough strategy development implementation or strategic engineering/capital equipment experience
Enabling supplier development, value delivery, and continuous improvement
Advance skills in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint)
Working knowledge of PowerBI, Sievo, BuySmart-Coupa is preferred
Travel: 10%
Education/Degree:
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain or Engineering or Operations
MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferred
Experience:
Minimum ten years professional experience in Global Procurement
Experience in developing and implementing effective sourcing strategies preferred
Experience in regulated and deregulated energy markets
