American Seating Company Production Supervisor - 1st shift in Grand Rapids, Michigan

POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for directing manufacturing operations to achieve on time orders and production requirements.  Supervises one or more departments or areas, managing Safety, Quality, Delivery, and Efficiency.  Attends meetings and works on miscellaneous projects as assigned.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes workflow by assigning responsibilities, preparing build schedules and outlining duties.
  • Sets daily/weekly/monthly objectives and communicates them to employees within assigned department.
  • Trains employees how to safely use machinery and tools.
  • Monitors the work of employees for quality and quantity, providing feedback and coaching when needed.
  • Recommends and assists in procedure revisions to improve efficiency and quality.
  • Enforces company work rules and policies in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Works with teams to drive continuous improvement needs by using good problem-solving practices.
  • Attends production, manning, and other meetings as required. Assists with staffing.
  • Assures the administration of and compliance with the union contract within assigned realm of influence.
  • Administers discipline as needed in conjunction with the Human Resource Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associates degree in Manufacturing or related area.
  • Prior supervisory/leadership experience.
  • 2-4 years of work experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience working in a union environment a plus.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • General business knowledge of planning, scheduling, finance, and human resources.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, machinery, and product.
  • Knowledge of safety requirements and general laws.
  • Familiarity with MRP systems.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills, including conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Excel.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Plant environment with occasional discomfort due to dust, noise and fumes.
  • Extended work hours frequently required.
  • Work requires concentration on figures, paperwork and data with frequent distracting influences such as people, telephone calls, noise etc. Frequent pressure and stress related to meeting shipments and scheduling changes.
