DESCRIPTION OF WORK

A Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist Trainee learns to implement and develop programs during the ten-month school year that will educate and prevent alcohol and drug addiction. This position works under the direction of the prevention supervisor or senior prevention specialist staff to deliver evidence-based drug and alcohol prevention programming to students all levels from kindergarten through twelfth grade. You will have the opportunity to help establish lesson plan guidelines for teachers and augment existing materials to meet requirements of school personnel. This includes playing an active role in conducting trainings for teachers, parents, service-providers, and the community at large.

This ten-month trainee position and prepares you for the role of Drug & Alcohol Prevention Specialist. You will also learn to provide intervention services in a school setting, conduct D&A screenings for students, and co-facilitate support groups. Work Schedule and Additional Information: Full-time, seasonal, recurring employment. 10 months per year. Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Hours vary based on school district scheduled hours and include evenings. This position requires travel both inside and out of Wayne County. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Experience and Training Requirements: A bachelor's degree; or Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Lackawanna, Monroe, Pike, Susquehanna, or Wayne counties. Legal Requirements: You must pass a background investigation. A conditional offer of employment will require a drug screening. This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law. Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
