Job Description Summary

 

Michigan Technological University invites applications for multiple tenure-track faculty positions in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the assistant professor level. Exceptionally qualified candidates will be considered for appointment at an associate or full professor rank and considered for an open endowed chair position in the department.

 

Applicants for the position are required to have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline.

 

All areas of chemical and biomolecular/bioprocess engineering are of interest. We are looking for faculty candidates with demonstrated capabilities in research, teaching expertise in core chemical engineering topics, and a strong commitment to mentoring and working with students.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)

 

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses (core courses including mass and energy balances, thermodynamics, kinetics, transport, and/or process control).

  • Mentor diverse students at all levels (UG through PhD).

  • Develop a self-sustaining, externally funded, nationally recognized research program.

  • Foster and contribute to a collaborative culture.

  • Engage in professional service activities within the department, university, community, and professional organizations. 

  • Communicate (written, oral) with internal audiences (students, peers, researchers, supervisors, etc.) and external audiences (funding agencies, societies, journals, etc.). 

  • Tenure track faculty typically allocate their time as follows: 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service.

  • Integrate safety practices into daily activities and apply continuous improvement strategies to everyday work.

     

     

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures (minimum requirements)

 

A Ph.D. in chemical engineering or a closely related discipline (by start date) and experiences that provide expertise to teach core chemical engineering courses.

 

 

Required Experience (minimum requirements)

 

Assistant: 

  • Demonstrated mentorship of students (at any level) in research.

     

Associate or Full: 

  • Demonstrated mentorship and advising of graduate students toward degree completion.

  • Experience managing a funded research project.

     

     

Desirable Education and/or Experience

 

Assistant:

  • A degree in chemical engineering at any degree level.
