Flynn Restaurant Group Safety Specialist in INDEPENDENCE, Ohio

Position Description

The Safety Specialist will provide support to ensure the health and safety of employees and customers across all restaurant brands and locations within the Flynn Group. This position is responsible for assisting the Senior Manager of Risk Management in the maintenance and improvement of the Flynn Group corporate safety programs. This role involves researching, implementing, and enforcing safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal health and safety regulations. The Safety Specialist is a resource for OSHA compliance and investigations including accident investigations and corrective action plans. Determines OSHA reportable requirements per incident that is flagged to Safety. Completes regular data review and provides information to the field for implementation. Provide recommendations for program priorities based on analysis of loss data and injury trends. Acts as a resource for developing safety related training, materials, programs, and presentations. Position interfaces with all levels of personnel in addressing safety questions, explaining results of risk analysis, and acting as a partner for all other safety related projects.

Essential responsibilities will include:

  • Reviews employee incidents to determine if a reportable OSHA requirement. Calls reportable injuries into OSHA as required.

  • Provides support for OSHA compliance including OSHA regulations, programs, visits, and citations.

  • Research and ensure policies and procedures are following changing regulations as they pertain to the business.

  • Assists with implementation of all new safety programs based on priorities determined by Senior Manager of Risk Management.

  • Work with Worker Compensation and General Liability Department Leaders to help identify adverse trends, mitigate exposures, and educate management.

  • Conduct and review loss analysis from loss data, actuarial and financial reports, and root cause analysis.

  • Create all safety-related training.

  • Oversees all safety committees where required.

  • Create monthly safety topics.

  • Run incident report data.

  • Attend meetings virtually as needed.

  • Track and review safety meeting information and safety audits.

  • EPA and DOT regulatory compliance.

  • OSHA 300 logs and BLS reporting.

  • Travel Expectations up to 25%

  • Visit at least 1 market for each brand annually to conduct in-person safety audits, provide training to leadership on safety topics, and provide guidance on other safety related topics.

  • Safety Conventions as approved

Desired Skills and Experience

  • Restaurant and/or Fitness industry compliance and Safety experience preferred.

  • College degree and related safety certifications strongly preferred.

  • Minimum of 1 to 3 years of experience in the safety field, including: experience with OSHA regulations with the ability to execute understanding for OSHA inspections, injury reporting, program compliance, program development, loss analysis, and safety committees.

  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations, standards, and best practices

  • Prior experience working in the food and/or service industry.

  • Ability to effectively work with and communicate safety initiatives to all levels of the organization.

  • Strong computer and analytical skills, with the ability to exercise self-direction and initiative, and make decisions in a fast-paced changing work environment.

  • Ability to multi-task on projects.

  • Must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills.

  • Proven ability for team participation including ability to implement efficient work processes, problem prevention identification and resolution skills.

  • Flexibility for meeting multiple demands and ability to utilize and effective time management planning process.
