Shift Technical Services Engineer

Your role: Reporting to the Assistant Technical Services Manager, the Shift Technical Services Engineer (TSE) will exercise sound technical judgement while working at times under pressure and within the constraints of production schedules. The nature of the work will require the Shift TSE to work both within a team and alone, ensuring minimum downtime and maximum manufacturing efficiency. This will be achieved through reactive, preventative planned and corrective maintenance of all production and associated equipment.

Day to day you will:

  • Maintaining high standards of employee, business partner and visitor health and safety, ensuring that all accidents are reported using the correct Company procedure and supporting all health and safety initiatives

  • Reactive, planned preventative, corrective and maintenance support of all production equipment

  • Providing technical expertise in maximising production up-time

  • Working cohesively with the engineering and manufacturing management teams and /or associated maintenance and technical organisations as appropriate

  • Provides an assisting role in the maintenance and development of Health & Safety policies and procedures, ensuring that area and team standards meet Company, legal and ethical requirements.

  • Exercising sound technical judgement either independently or under general direction of the supervisory team is an essential part of this role.

  • Responsible for recording and reporting on both planned and corrective maintenance tasks using Newsprinters CMMS (computerised maintenance management system). This includes but is not limited to; inventory record keeping relating to consumable and repairable parts.

  • Provide or attend any training and development activities to support learning in the role and that of other team members and apprentices.

  • Liaises with Team Managers, Print Team, fellow Technical Engineers, and all members of production operational staff to coordinate effort and maximise effectiveness of production equipment and or associated equipment

  • As identified by the Technical supervision, actively take part in strategic projects designed to identify future opportunities and threats to the business followed up with proposals and action plans for implementation (to include but not limited to profitable capital investment).

  • To work collaboratively on problems relating to technical issues and product quality

  • Assist with trials and development of new products and working practices in accordance

  • Contributing to and ensuring all reports are accurate and concise.

What we are looking for from you:

  • Time served or hold electrical or mechanical biased recognised qualifications, ideally; City & Guilds Technicians Lv.3 certificate, HNC, HND or equivalent standard.

  • Print industry experience with good knowledge of Newsprinters equipment i.e. CTP, web offset printing, reel preparation equipment, post press equipment is preferred

  • Proficient (intermediate level) in relevant technology systems - Microsoft, Google, SAP, HolisTech and CBM Technologies
