Peckham, Inc. - Employee Relations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY

The Employee Relations Manager is a working manager position that will facilitate and manage the employee-employer relationship on behalf of the Company to ensure the organization’s treatment of employees is consistent with the framework of its committable core values, code of ethics and conduct, and policies. In addition, this position oversees the Wellbeing and Worker Compensation programs. The incumbent will have a high degree of trust and the ability to build relationships with internal and external partners.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Evaluates, selects, and manages relationships with vendors to provide supplemental HR processes and services. (for example, MDRC, EEOC, OSHA, work comp and wellbeing)

  • Manages key HR functions, including employee/labor relations, safety, wellbeing, training on safety and code of ethics, conduct and policy, and employee records (employee relations/WC).

  • Maintains employee records of accidents (safety), performance (employee relations and performance review), and other activities and files reporting required to comply with labor laws and regulations.

  • Collaborates with leadership on special projects.

  • Leads and facilitates the employee relations program and related functions.

  • Conduct investigations as needed to collect and document information in a timely way, in response to reported associate concerns and potential misconduct

  • Lead difficult conversations to successful outcomes, being comfortable with constructive conflict and appreciation for all viewpoints, delivering difficult information when needed

  • Apply a strong working knowledge of employment law and risk management to effectively guide decision making

  • Work closely with the VP of Belonging to ensure employee relations outcomes and directives are equitable and inclusive.

  • Responsible for the development and review of company policies and handbooks.

  • Ensure detailed and accurate documentation is created and stored in a timely manner

  • Conducts investigations into complex employee relations issues.

  • Provides guidance and consultation to Peckham leadership on employee relations issues.

  • Identifies and analyzes employee relations matters and prepares recommendations to ensure compliance and that issues are handled in an equitable manner.

  • Provides guidance related to applicable Equal Employment Opportunity laws, including Title VII, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, and other similar federal and state laws to mitigate liability related to internally and externally submitted employee complaints.

  • Assists leaders in understanding and implementing company policies related to performance, discipline, and related topics.

  • Oversees the development and implementation of company worksite wellness programs such as on-site lunch & learn presentations, challenge programs, on-site fitness classes, health fair, etc.

  • Manages as well as provide oversite for corporate safety and incident reporting.

  • Manages as well as provide oversite of Workers Compensation program.

  • Partners with Human Services and Operations with ADA accommodations programs.

  • Manage and build relationships with external customers (OSHA, EEOC, MDCR, etc.)

  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has direct supervisory responsibility.

  • Develop a unified team that reflects Peckham’s culture and values.

  • Provide mentorship and coaching.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5 years of experience in a Human Resources role with increasing responsibilities

  • 5 years’ experience facilitating investigations, interviews, and employee relations issues.

  • Experience with people and process management

  • Experience working with senior level leadership on employee relations, experience, issues, etc.

  • Must work onsite and be able to travel to Peckham locations within Michigan

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience responding to EEOC and MDCR claims

  • Experience managing Workers Compensation

  • Experience developing and executing Corporate Wellbeing programs

  • Expert understanding of the ADAA and managing requests for accommodations
