This position performs routine preventive maintenance, repairs, and assists the Facilities Manager in providing comprehensive maintenance for SUA facilities. Approximately 70% time in the St. Paul Student Center and 30% time in Coffman Memorial Union and West Bank Skyway with routine weekly duties in both locations. The General Mechanic reports directly to the Facilities Manager. Position is represented by Teamsters Bargaining Unit. Dues or Fair Share deductions will be made. Promotional period for Teamsters runs from 5/3/2024 through 5/10/2024 Hourly Salary Range: $22.10 - $25.84 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspects, maintains, and troubleshoots plumbing, HVAC, door and window hardware, structural components, equipment, and grounds of facility. Including but not limited to: lubrication of fans, motors and other equipment cleaning and replacement of filters troubleshooting electrical, lighting, and changing bulbs maintaining and troubleshooting food service equipment for Gopher Spot C-Store. May take lead in coordinating repairs, painting, and other maintenance concerns with FM trades. Receives on the job training to perform on-going maintenance and repair of bowling equipment with increasing responsibilities for maintenance and repair at both St Paul Student Center and Coffman Union. Assembles and/or installs shelving and furniture. Repairs and modifies base equipment. Repairs custodial equipment. Provides excellent customer service in all interactions with co-workers, tenants, and patrons. May act as lead worker for student utility worker and assist in training and development. Communicates with supervisor to seek approval for and coordinate non-routine work. Closes the loop on all non-routine projects and maintenance concerns with supervisor and with area supervisors as appropriate through the use of clear and timely communications. Responsible for maintaining adequate inventory of parts/supplies and for the maintenance of tools. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Essential Qualifications: Must be able to follow detailed written work orders, plans and drawings. Technical education/training in mechanical maintenance totaling one year and one year of applicable work experience, or a combination of education and/or applicable experience to total two years. Positions may require the ability to walk or stand for the majority of the day; bend, climb, reach, kneel; carry, lift, push and pull 50 pounds or more. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must be able to read and write competently in English. Able to prioritize workload demands to reflect urgency of tasks and customer needs. Able to organize multiple projects with conflicting deadlines. Preferred qualifications: Strong communication skills. Ability to work independently and take initiative.
