Where will Amazon’s growth come from next year? In five years? Which product lines are staged to quintuple in size, and which ones are mature? Are we investing enough in our infrastructure, or too much? How will our customers react to changes in prices, or selection, or delivery speed? The SCOT Topline Forecasting team works to answer these key questions.

The Supply Chain Optimization Technology (SCOT) team owns Amazon’s global inventory planning systems: SCOT decides what, when, where, and how much inventory to buy in order to meet customer needs as well as Amazon’s business goals. We do this for millions of items, for hundreds of product lines worth billions of dollars of inventory world-wide. Our systems are built entirely in-house, and are on the cutting edge in automated large scale supply chain planning and optimization systems. SCOT Topline Forecasting is responsible for predicting

SCOT Topline Forecasting is looking for a Business Intelligence Engineer to support the team. Topline BI Engineers engage with internal stakeholders and external consumers of Topline forecast to ensure they have timely data in the right context to answer key business questions. The ideal candidate will have experience in leading analytics projects including but not limited to: forecasting, business monitoring, business intelligence and data visualization. The candidate should also have experience mapping analytical solutions to business problems in the most ambiguous environments with a track record of making data easy to consume for end users. This position will require extensive stakeholder and project management.

Key job responsibilities

  • Build customer-facing reporting tools to provide insights and metrics which track forecast performance and explain variance

  • Develop data-driven analysis to understand Amazon growth drivers and demand pattern

  • Develop solutions that utilize the highest standards of analytical rigor and data integrity.

  • Partner with scientist and engineers to implement optimal analyses that drive to the root of the issue and create actionable insights or paths to solution.

  • Manage and execute entire projects or components of large projects from start to finish including project management, data gathering and manipulation, synthesis and modeling, problem solving, and communication of insights and recommendations.

A day in the life

Topline BI Engineers focus on how our customers use our forecasts and ensuring it's as easy as possible. We serve on the front lines of forecast validation as a proxy for our customers to make sure changes are well understood. We develop reports and data access points that answer key questions work with science and engineering teams to resolve forecast questions.

About the team

Topline forecasting brings together all science disciplines, software, data and BI engineers to answer the fundamental question of Amazon's demand trends. We work with Finance, Operations and planning teams to not only answer where demand is going but why and what are the drivers. We actively work with our customers to drive decisions managing Amazon growth.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of analyzing and interpreting data with Redshift, Oracle, NoSQL etc. experience

  • Experience with data modeling, warehousing and building ETL pipelines

  • Experience with data visualization using Tableau, Quicksight, or similar tools

  • Experience writing complex SQL queries

  • Experience in Statistical Analysis packages such as R, SAS and Matlab

  • Experience using SQL to pull data from a database or data warehouse and scripting experience (Python) to process data for modeling

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift

  • Experience in data mining, ETL, etc. and using databases in a business environment with large-scale, complex datasets

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $79,600/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
