Aladdin Financial Engineering (AFE)

AFE is a diverse and global team with a keen interest and expertise in all things related to technology and financial analytics. The group is responsible for the research, development, and adoption of quantitative financial and behavioral models and tools across many different areas – single-security pricing, prepayment models, risk, return attribution, liquidity, optimization and portfolio construction, scenario analysis and simulations, covering all asset classes. The group is also responsible for the technology platform that delivers those models to our internal partners and external clients, and their integration with Aladdin.

FMG conducts leading research on the areas above, delivering state-of-the-art models. FMG publishes applied scientific research frequently, and our members present regularly at leading industry conferences. FMG engages constantly with the sales team in client visits and meetings.

Role

We are seeking an experienced fixed income quantitative modeler (Vice President) to join portfolio risk team within Aladdin Financial Engineering Group at BlackRock.

The Portfolio Risk team builds and maintains multiple models and analytics, including linear factor models, Value-at-Risk (VaR) methodologies, volatility and covariance matrix estimation, and portfolio stress testing & scenario analytics. Our models cover a wide variety of fixed income, equity, and alternatives asset classes. The models utilize sophisticated econometric/statistical methods and tools. Aladdin model suite is utilized by traders, portfolio managers and risk managers at BlackRock and platform’s clients, and influence investment activity. We strive to lead and implement models that scale with our growing Analytics’ business ensuring adherence to BlackRock’s rigorous standards of model governance. We are looking for an experienced and driven individual contributor to lead key portfolio risk modeling initiatives in securitized space with room to grow and lead the securitized risk modeling team in the future.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead risk model development for securitized asset classes including but not limited to CMBS, ABS, Non-Agency mortgages, CLOs, etc.

Revamp existing model suite and work on evolving the models to sync with markets, upstream analytics, and downstream use cases.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5-8 years of experience in quantitative field / statistical modeling. Experience with structured products and portfolio risk analytics is strongly preferred.

  • Advanced degree in a quantitative discipline – Master’s degree in Finance / Economics / Statistics / Financial Engineering / Math Finance, etc.

  • Knowledge of investments, portfolio management, econometrics, and empirical asset pricing.

  • A strong background in quantitative research.

  • Familiarity with structured products.

  • Hands-on experience with statistical software (e.g., Python, R, MATLAB) and strong background in programming. Proficiency with Python is strongly preferred.

  • Experience with data handling (ETL, data joining with SQL, cleaning, processing, summarizing, descriptive analysis), and building and back-testing statistical and econometric models.

  • Experience with various machine learning algorithms is a plus.

  • Prior work experience in financial modeling (e.g., risk models, analytics) or data science and model deployment to production environment is strongly desired.

  • Ability to work effectively with a team of highly motivated individuals.

  • Time and project management skills.

  • Proven track record of guiding junior talent.

  • Positive attitude and ability to work both independently and as a part of a global team in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Ability to synthesize requirements from multiple stakeholders into actionable plans.

For New York City only: The salary range for this position is $157,500 - $214,500. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus, and benefits including heath care, leave benefits, and retirement benefits. BlackRock operates a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy and your total compensation may vary based on role, location, and firm, department and individual performance.
