Bergen Logistics HR Manager in North Bergen, New Jersey

The HR Manager is a key resource to all staff providing excellent internal customer service and delivering on HR goals and objectives around workplace culture, performance development, compliance with labor laws and ensuring an overall fair and productive work environment. The HR Manager is also responsible for ensuring that the overall administration, coordination, and evaluation of human resources plans and programs are realized.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Be the main point of contact for employee concerns about the workplace

  • Reinforce an environment where employees feel welcomed, valued and safe

  • Oversee the performance review management process for all staff

  • Liaise with managers and staff on the delivery of performance discipline ensuring fairness and objectivity at all steps of the process

  • Answer employee questions on benefits, payroll, leave of absence

  • Conduct and support all steps of new hire orientation

  • Support employee recognition programs

  • Conduct exit interviews and manage the termination process

  • Ensure compliance with labor laws at the federal, state and municipal levels

  • Take on projects that contribute towards the delivery of the department’s strategy

  • Review and approve the use of temp agencies

  • Review and submit payroll reports

  • Provide reporting on labor efficiencies

  • Support benefits administration and review invoicing

  • Report on workplace incidents and filing of workers compensation claims

  • Support any HRIS/Payroll systems implementations, upgrades or conversions

  • Other responsibilities, as necessary, may be assigned

Requirements

  • Previous HR Manager/Generalist experience, 4-6 years; logistics industry, preferable

  • Bachelor’s Degree in HR, Organizational Development, Business Management

  • PHIRA, PHR or SHRM-CP certification is desirable

  • Strong bias for action and achieving results

  • Strong customer service orientation

  • Strong communication Skills

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects

  • Strong ethical conduct and trustworthy

  • Bilingual Spanish, highly preferable
