Post Doctoral Associate - Chemistry Chemistry - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (24003758)

Job Description: Job Title: Postdoctoral Associate Anticipated Starting Annual Salary: $56,484 USD (the current NIH NRSA stipend) Location: University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA USA Full-time, temporary

We seek a postdoctoral associate to work with Prof. Wesley Transue on a study of the interplay of spin and chirality in molecular systems. The project will center the synthesis of donor--bridge--acceptor molecules, and the enantiomeric excess of these systems will be monitored upon spin-polarized electron transfer. The synthesis will be accompanied by extensive spectroscopic investigation (UV/visible absorption, electron paramagnetic resonance, circular dichroism, magnetic circular dichroism), X-ray crystallography, and computational techniques (e.g. density functional theory). The project will involve collaboration with a graduate and undergraduate student in the Transue lab, and some spectroscopic measurements will involve further collaborations with other labs. You will be expected to publish research in high-profile peer-reviewed scientific journals and present results at conferences. Required Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry Experience in chemical synthesis especially in the use of air-free techniques Ability to write peer-reviewed publications as evidenced by a strong publication record Commitment to laboratory safety and maintenance of an inclusive work environment Desired Qualifications: Experience in the following areas: -- Synthesis of air-sensitive paramagnetic transition metal coordination complexes and their characterization through spectroscopic and crystallographic techniques -- Collection and interpretation of EPR (electron paramagnetic resonance) spectra of paramagnetic molecular samples (especially exchange coupled systems) Demonstrated ability to approach complex problems creatively Skills to work effectively in an independent context and as part of a team Experience and/or interest in mentoring graduate and undergraduate researchers Position Information: This postdoctoral position is a temporary position for one year with possibility for renewal upon mutual agreement.
