Summary:

At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. The Reality Labs Research Audio Team is looking for an Audio Research Electrical Engineer to help bring cutting edge virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences and hardware to life. In our Research & Advanced Development projects, we are setting out to fundamentally transform how people interact with sound; bringing these experiences to the daily lives of billions of people. To make this possible, we need a well-rounded team that nurtures kinship, fosters good communication, and is sympathetic to the challenges in these diverse domains.In this role, you will be collaborating with engineers and researchers to concept, design, and build the next generation of research hardware systems that enable social VR, AR, and Smart Wearables. You will design hardware that includes audio circuitry, power supplies, small microcontrollers, System on Chip devices, FPGAs, MEMS sensors, and cameras.We are looking for someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, exhibits a sense of ownership, and enjoys building. We have a wide variety of problems that need solutions, and we depend on people who are comfortable with embracing a creative, thoughtful approach to both short-term and long-term problem solving.

Required Skills:

Audio Research Electrical Engineer Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement audio hardware solutions for novel, wearable VR/AR devices on a highly cross-functional engineering team.

  2. Design and debug comprehensive electrical systems encompassing microcontrollers, sensors, digital interfaces (I2C, SPI, UART), along with high quality audio signal chains involving microphones, amplifiers, DSPs, and speakers.

  3. Develop one-off technology prototypes as well as design and maintain complete audio research hardware platforms.

  4. Own schematics, guide board layout (rigid & flexible PCB), assemble, test, debug, and integrate multi-component electrical systems using industry-standard simulation and design packages such as SPICE, MATLAB, Altium or Cadence.

  5. Establish and conduct collaborations with multidisciplinary partners, both internal and external.

  6. Transform design requirements and vendor reference designs into working custom solutions.

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience

  2. 5+ years of industry experience in hardware design or electrical engineering roles, including use of schematic and board layout tools and bench test equipment such as oscilloscopes/logic analyzers/function generators

  3. Must obtain work authorization in country of employment at the time of hire, and maintain ongoing work authorization during employment

  1. 5+ years of experience in audio hardware or portable, wearable consumer electronics

  2. Integration and analysis of sensors (Microphones, Accelerometers, IMU)

  3. Experience with analog audio, DSP, and digital audio protocols (PDM, TDM, I2S)

  4. Experience with image sensors, FPGAs, and high-speed digital protocols (MIPI, USB SS)

  5. Experience integrating RF technologies such as WIFI, BT, GPS, etc

Public Compensation:

$129,000/year to $200,000/year + bonus + equity + benefits
