Amazon Sr. Technical Program Manager, Project Kuiper in Redmond, Washington

Description

In this role, you will interface with cross-functional engineering and program/product management teams to develop foundational embedded system components for Kuiper. Our mission is to ensure that we provide robust systems software to all the various compute systems on the satellite. Our focuses are on reliability, safety, security and developer productivity.

Project Kuiper is an initiative to increase global broadband access through a constellation of 3,236 satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO). Its mission is to bring fast, affordable broadband to unserved and underserved communities around the world. Project Kuiper will help close the digital divide by delivering fast, affordable broadband to a wide range of customers, including consumers, businesses, government agencies, and other organizations operating in places without reliable connectivity.

Key job responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering leaders to create project plans for satellite-ground hardware/software system(s) throughout the development lifecycle, from requirements to development to validation and verification in an agile development environment.

  • Work with product/program management to ensure that satellite-ground subsystem(s) meets schedule, cost, and quality requirements.

  • Drive engineering project execution, make technical trade-offs, track and report on status, and resolve blocking issues.

  • Collaborate with architecture, hardware, and software teams on ensuring cross-functional deliverables are identified and tracked.

  • Act as the point of contact for Kuiper satellite-ground subsystem(s) and work with external teams to identify and mitigate programmatic risks in meeting shared goals

  • Communicate clearly and effectively to executive management on the plans, status, and critical issues. Escalate urgent issues appropriately and drive them to closure in a timely manner.

  • Assist with vendor management, and vendor deliveries.

  • Organize regular project and team meetings, focusing design teams on program milestones and unblock technical issues by pulling together the multi-functional technical expertise to resolve the issues

  • Set agenda, communicate meeting notes and actions; follow up with responsible owners

  • Participate in technical discussions, ask probing questions, and work with the team to pull together scoping, schedules, and solutions to issues

  • Demonstrate leadership and be adept at navigating through tough situations, juggling various priorities and managing constraints

You must be competent in a variety of project management tools, methodologies and techniques for all phases of the project life-cycle and exhibit demonstrated proficiency in core project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, resources, quality and risk management, reporting and metric development/tracking.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of technical product or program management experience

  • 7+ years of working directly with engineering teams experience

  • 3+ years of software development experience

  • 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience

  • Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience

  • Experience managing projects across cross functional teams, building sustainable processes and coordinating release schedules

  • Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $133,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $231,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
