What You’ll Be Doing

As a Senior Category Manager, Procurement, you’ll work within the Corporate & PBB Sourcing team, and will focus primarily on indirect spend categories to support the Real Estate, Communications, Marketing, Finance and HR clients. You will manage end to end procurement and contracting activities of varied spend portfolios and will be responsible for procurement initiatives including identifying areas of opportunity through analyses of industries and supply markets; analyzing cost models for certain key products and services; and manage the performance of key suppliers. Limited guidance and oversight is required to be able to perform this job. You will also develop and present procurement strategy recommendations as part of advisory service to clients based on their business requirements and industry analysis as well as define and resolve problems/issues in a creative or innovative way when clients' needs / requests / projects are presented in a general or ambiguous manner. You develop, negotiate, execute and implement moderate to high complexity procurement initiatives (including developing requests for proposals and other selection and supplier evaluation tools), while ensuring that CIBC risks are mitigated, and regulatory requirements and CIBC policies are adhered to. Participate in the enhancement or recommendation of changes to the operating practices and processes within Procurement to improve requirements planning, procurement and supplier management processes. Execute and implement moderate to high complexity procurement initiatives within the relevant expenditure categories.

How You’ll Succeed

  • Client Engagement – Help clients meet their business goals by providing better service and value. Focus on each client experience and make every interaction meaningful.

  • Relationship Management – Establish and maintain healthy working relationships with business partners, suppliers, and peers. Develops trusted advisor relationships and provide leadership and valued consulting advice to facilitate the effective management and completion of procurement initiatives. Align procurement solutions with their business objectives

  • Risk Management - Ensure the appropriate Governance is followed and adhered to for all contract and work with Supplier Risk Stakeholders, Relationship Managers and Business Lead to ensure CIBC’s supplier management framework is implemented for medium to high risk or high spend supplier under the scope of responsibility. Develop contract content independently or in partnership with a legal resource.

  • Influencing and Negotiations – Be a strong influencer and negotiator with the ability to liaise with all levels of stakeholders. Manage contract drafting, negotiations and finalization, approval processes. Comply with CIBC’s Procurement and Supplier Governance policies and process. You Lead the negotiation strategy alignment and contract negotiations, as well as secure authorizations for agreement execution and Discuss and negotiate complex issues and requirements with senior management.

  • Problem Solving - Listen, ask questions, and put yourself in the client’s shoes. Act like an owner by taking accountability for client issues, and know when to collaborate with others to build a better solution together.

  • Manage Multiple Priorities - Use effective self-management practices to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.

  • Industry Knowledge : Keep abreast of the industry knowledge, innovations and advancements in business practices and technologies

  • Leadership and Stakeholder Management : You have strong leadership and stakeholder management skills with the experience and ability to influence up, down and across the organization and be comfortable to present and interface with C-level executives. As a part of the role, you’ll partner with business client executives, directors, resources from the lines of business, legal, risk management, regulatory agencies, competitors, and supplier organizations to provide specialized procurement expertise for moderate to high complexity deals with major CIBC client and organizational impact; meet business objectives in a high profile, strategic, rapidly evolving and competitive environment.

Who You Are

  • You can demonstrate experience in procurement and/or supplier processes (5 years), practices, tools and templates and principles of formal sourcing processes, and ability to apply to various categories / circumstances. You have the experience in drafting various contract schedules (e.g., Scope of Work, SLA, etc.) and negotiate contractual terms and conditions and can maximize efficiencies, processes and systems across Corporate Services to meet CIBC business goals. You have the experience to develop strategy and convert it into an implementation plan to meet procurement objectives and have strong self-planning skills sufficient to plan own assignments according to general work plans; ability to multi-task, plan and meet timelines and understand that collaboration can transform a good idea into a great one. You understand the power of an inclusive team that enjoys working together to bring a shared vision to life and possess strong written and oral communication, influencing and negotiating skills sufficient to shape decision-making process on matters such as complex contract negotiations.
