Federal Aviation Administration Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software) in United States

Summary In support of the Operations Support Directorate, the Information Technology Specialist (Applications Software) supports the advancement of automation and efficiency in our digital landscape. With a primary focus on SharePoint development and cutting-edge application creation, this role excels in optimizing processes for a more streamlined and productive environment. Responsibilities The Information Technology (IT) Specialist (Applications Software) performs multiple, varying, and complex assignments relating to architecture and development of SharePoint solutions under limited direction of a manager, project/ program manager, team leader, or more experienced technical specialist. As a contributing specialist, assists in the development of innovative applications to enhance operational workflows, and leveraging automation to drive efficiency gains. Works collaboratively with a team or individually on assigned projects to meet deadlines and deliverables. Possesses knowledge of software development life-cycle, including requirements analysis, design, testing, integration, deployment, and maintenance. Applies experience and advanced technical knowledge of the design, testing, modification, installation and integration of new or existing applications software to accomplish assignments and to develop plans and techniques to improve programs and policies. Researches and evaluating new and emerging developments in the web services area to support new or existing applications software. Performs assignments such as, computer programming; collecting, recording, and analyzing data/information; identifying problems; investigating and inspecting platforms and/or sites to ensure they are performing as planned; and ensures the delivery of application software services conforms to policies, principles, and practices. Provides guidance to lower-level technical staff on how to solve difficult technical issues. Develops, integrates, and implements software solutions to diverse, complex problems, including applications, web parts, features, content types, and other constructs. Works with customers to assist with requirements, customization, and development of intranet or internet sites. Assists with the SharePoint administration, involving future enhancements, service packs/updates and upgrades. Works with more experienced IT Specialist in customizing commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions to meet government customer needs and requirements; and customizes and optimizes SharePoint Online sites, incorporating modern web parts. Analyzes systems requirements to redefine and translate requirements into application models. Designs data models in Dataverse or similar technologies, ensuring data integrity and performance. Assists with the planning and coordinating of tests, modifications, and implementation of tested technologies. Applies troubleshooting and analytical skills to diagnose and resolve issues while maintaining the confidentiality of information. Resolves all but unique technical problems without the intervention of management or a more experienced technical specialist. Identifies and informs management of problems that require their attention. Often develops and recommends techniques to address problem situations. Provides recommendations to improve work processes. Contributes to the preparation of management/technical reports or contractual documents and may communicate the overall results of a project or work activity to FAA management, the aviation and aerospace industries, and other external audiences. Established policies/procedures provide guidance for most assignments but allow considerable discretion to select the most appropriate approach or to recommend new approaches. Engages in continuous learning to stay current with latest technologies and standards involving web development. Work is reviewed periodically, typically at major milestones and at completion, for technical compliance and alignment with the requirements of the project or other work activity. The work activities typically support and may be vital to the success of projects or activities of one or more organizational units, AJW, and ATO.
