ModMed (https://www.modmed.com/company/) is hiring a driven Supervisor of Medical Coding & Auditing to join our positive, passionate, and high-performing RCM team. The Medical Coding and Auditing Supervisor is a subject matter expert (SME) in multi-specialty medical coding and documentation requirements and an expert in coding quality assurance auditing. They are responsible for supervising their internal team, which includes managing processes, workflows, and functions related to medical coding and auditing. As well as monitoring our global coding partners' performance, quality of work, and coding effectiveness for our RCM clients. The Medical Coding and Auditing Supervisor regularly and proactively evaluates the internal and global coding teams' responsibilities and productivity to ensure optimal team performance.

The Medical Coding and Auditing Supervisor regularly meets with their team to understand their performance, career, and development goals and, together with the Manager, actively supports, coaches, and develops team members to create a positive team member experience. They help their team fulfill the company mission to develop, follow, and initiate the appropriate processes that will result in accuracy and improved practice RCM efficiency and success.

The ideal candidate has a results-driven mindset, is decisive, and is a self-starter. They show proven success in leading a team of certified coders internally and globally. The Medical Coding and Auditing Supervisor is vital in developing workflows and processes to achieve productivity numbers, coding accuracy, and overall coding quality.

Your Role:

  • Lead a team of Medical Coding Auditors and foster a positive work environment that maximizes individual and team performance through regular communication, training, and coaching.

  • Communicate, monitor, and support client and company goals and metrics with team members to create alignment and deliver high levels of customer service.

  • Responsible for managing and directing the internal departments' day-to-day functions and processes.

  • Responsible for overseeing and managing the medical coding quality assurance workflow related to initial claims coding and coding denial support for our RCM customers.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities to enhance/improve workflows for efficient, productive, and successful processes to ensure all claims are collected accurately and timely.

  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of various SOPs/QRGs needed to support all coding workflows for our solutions, from high-level processes to specific functions.

  • Responsible for the creation and maintenance of client practice instructions, knowledge transfers, and other client-based information about coding for our RCM clients.

  • Conducts recurring meetings with the internal coding team to review processes and global coding workflows, spearhead any issues, initiate special projects, and identify opportunities to streamline coding quality assurance workflows.

  • Conducts recurring meetings with our global coding vendors on quality accuracy, coding trends, and other coding-related topics.

  • Provide directives on coding workflow, quality accuracy development, improving workflows, and delegation of work processes among the internal and global teams.

  • Assists with client-facing communication in regards to coding of RCM clients to ensure client success, efficiency in coding, and accuracy of coding.

  • Ensure coding and billing compliance are performed, monitored, and maintained for RCM clients.

  • Collaborate with the Manager on coding, auditing, or billing compliance concerns or issues and ensure ModMed billing policies and procedures are followed.

  • Involvement on the RCM committee calls to determine if coding involvement or assistance is needed.

  • Performs additional projects and job duties as assigned.

    Skills & Requirements:

  • Ability to work Eastern or Central business hours.

  • Certified Professional Medical Auditor (CPMA) required.

  • Certified in one of the following: CPC, COC, or CCS-P required.

  • Hold two or more role-related certifications such as CDEO or other specialty-specific certifications through AAPC or AHIMA (preferred).

  • 6+ years of Certified Professional Coder or Certified Coding Specialist experience (Physician-based and ASC facility).

  • 4+ years of Certified Professional Medical Auditor experience through the American Academy of Professional Coders.

  • 3+ years of leadership experience leading certified coders.

  • 3+ years of multi-specialty medical coding, billing, and denial coding.

  • 3+ years of experience with global service vendors.

  • Expertise in developing efficient procedures, protocols, and team workflows.

  • Knowledge of ModMed's proprietary solutions, gGastro/gMed and EMA/PM (preferred).

  • Expert knowledge in medical coding, auditing, quality assurance, and billing.

  • Experience in medical record review and documentation requirements.

  • Understanding of various insurance carriers (Medicare, private HMOs, PPOs, Capitation, Workers Comp).

  • Development skills for coding guidelines, workflows, and processes.

  • Strong knowledge of Google applications and Microsoft Word/Excel.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to motivate, coach, develop teams, and guide projects.

  • Effective multitasking, delegation, time management, and organizational skills.

  • Excellent customer service, teamwork, and HIPAA compliance.

  • Professional demeanor promoting a positive work environment.

  • Maintain coding knowledge and credentials.
