Position Summary
As a Principal Software Engineer (Full Stack) in our Retail Pharmacy Technology group, you'll combine your years of proven expertise with a never-ending quest to create innovative technology through solid engineering practices for the mission critical RxConnect Technology platform. You’ll be responsible for developing and deploying applications to the highest standards. With your deep knowledge of design, analytics, development, coding, testing, and application programming, you will be responsible to create best in class industry solutions, develop engineering frameworks to drive technology led innovation. Your passion and experience in one or more technology domains will help solve complex and mission critical problems, internally and externally. In addition to creating solutions for RxConnect Business workstreams, you’ll also work alongside our team of technologists to develop and execute RxConnect Modernization roadmap as Retail Pharmacy goes through a transformation of its own. This is an individual contributor role, reporting to the Director, Product and Engineering -Retail Pharmacy IT systems. This position will have an opportunity to provide strategic leadership for creating software designs and development of our products and services, that leverage digital first, data-driven, advanced technology solutions.
*Please note this role is hybrid i.e. 3 days in office, 2 days from home, so candidates should be based in close proximity to a corporate office.
Job responsibilities
Apply understanding of organization’s IT systems, operating model, technical methodologies, and technical delivery standards to effectively navigate and influence the organization
Carry out technology objectives for multiple technical areas or disciplines
Build frameworks, technical specs and implement design practices for the product development
Leverage technical expertise and business knowledge to drive adoption and implementation of technical methods within teams in line with product development methodologies
Adoption and implementation of newer technologies and practices to solve business problems as well as strengthen product capabilities
Partner with technical leaders within CVS Health and the open-source community and contribute to product strategy, frameworks, roadmap definition, and requirements-gathering
Implement innovative methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people in the solution of highly complex technical / business issues
Debug the critical problems which arise in production and execute effective solutions within the application and across multiple applications/systems
Lead continuous learning and process improvement activities to improve design and overall engineering practices
Provide thought leadership and build software solutions that deliver high impact business value and deliver customer delight
Lead the design and implementation of software solutions that are scalable, reliable, and maintainable
Collaborate with a diverse cross functional team including business partners, Product Managers, and designers to define product requirements, direction and clarity
Drive technical innovation and improvements of the design and architecture of software systems towards leading edge technologies and practices
Define, develop, and drive software engineering best practices
Perform technical due diligence and architectural assessments of third-party technologies and solutions
Participate and drive decomposing a monolithic code base to decoupled services
Document standards, best practices, and engineering artifacts so others can easily understand, build, and maintain best in class software systems
Grow talent by participating in hiring and mentoring team members
Required qualifications
10+ years of software development in enterprise/web applications
6+ years of experience as full stack developer
4+ years of experience in modern programming languages and cloud-based technologies.
4+ years of experience in Agile development practices
4+ years of experience in distributed systems, cloud computing, and microservices architecture
5+ years of experience with Azure, GCP or other public cloud services, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), SaaS application development/support, CI/CD practices, containerization, Kubernetes, and Agile/DevOps methodologies
Preferred qualifications

Mastery of application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines
Command of architecture, design, and business processes
Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices

Expert knowledge of software engineering best practices with experience building complex software engineering products
Experience in Retail Pharmacy or Healthcare domain
Passionate about building an innovative culture
Fosters a culture of continuous open feedback within teams and business unit
Extensive experience with building and driving adoption of software engineering best practices
Experience working with distributed teams, working across multiple time zones and geographies
Ability to influence and inspire teams to align technical direction
Ability to create and execute innovation roadmaps
Have contributed to open-source technology and Developed patents
Ability to learn/work with emerging technologies, methodologies, and solutions in the Cloud/IT technology space
Ability to collaborate across organizational boundaries, build relationships, and achieve broader organizational goals
In-depth experience with building application programming interfaces (API) and frameworks in their field
Experience in API security, analytics, throttling, caching, logging, request and response modifications
Technology
Strong technical proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python
Familiarity with React JS, Nodejs or other front-end frameworks; ability to develop effective engineering practices and processes
Worked as Full Stack Developer with experience on building mission critical /highly scalable application with large user/infrastructure footprint
Extensive experience on Monolith to Microservices Migration
Extensive experience of the Cloud Native Development practices and 12 factor apps development
Extensive experience of Microservices Patterns and its right implementation
Familiarity with GraphQL/gRPC
Expert Java programming knowledge on latest JDK versions, Spring framework
Knowledge of open-source packages especially those provided by Apache, Google, and Spring
Database knowledge – SQL, NoSQL, table structure, data relationships
Education
Bachelor degree from accredited university or equivalent work experience (HS diploma + 4 years relevant experience)

Pay Range
The typical pay range for this role is:
$144,200.00 - $288,400.00
This pay range represents the base hourly rate or base annual full-time salary for all positions in the job grade within which this position falls. The actual base salary offer will depend on a variety of factors including experience, education, geography and other relevant factors. This position is eligible for a CVS Health bonus, commission or short-term incentive program in addition to the base pay range listed above. This position also includes an award target in the company’s equity award program.
